Photojournalism
My photography journey first began in 2020 when I joined my school's journalism class. We had a constant called Communicator Eats for which I took pictures every week. I started by shooting these pictures with my mom's iPhone 12. Later, my teacher gave me a DSLR camera. I had never used one before. After watching hours of YouTube videos and communicating with the Social Media Editors over zoom I began producing food pictures that I was proud of.

Then, we went back to in-person school. With this came a multitude of opportunities to go out and shoot for The Communicator's website, print edition and social media. I had gotten pretty good at taking pictures of still food where I could control lighting and arrangement. However, when I went out to shoot humans, I found it was much different. I had to get used to dull gym lights and split-second moments that were much too easy to miss. The only way to do that was to practice. So, I did. I took pictures at the Farmer's Market, at cross country and track meets, at my school's prom, at basketball games and more. I even went through MIPA's Shoot Like A Pro course with Michael Caterina and Olivia Carmody, who helped me build on my knowledge of shooting in manual and taught me how to effectively edit images.
