About Me

Hi, my name is Anjali Kakarla. I'm a 17-year old journalist from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I became captivated by the power of journalism when a family friend handed me my first copy of The Communicator magazine at my dad's surprise birthday party. I blazed through the magazine, too engrossed to put it down. Although I missed out on a slice of cake that day, my hunger was satiated by the start of a new interest.

Freshman year, I split-enrolled from Skyline High School (where no journalism classes were available) to take Journalism I at Community High School. Despite being completely online due to the pandemic, I was exposed to the powerful feeling of telling another person's story. Addicted to this feeling, I have continued to take journalism every following semester.

Outside of Room 300 at Community High School, I can be found playing point guard for the Skyline Eagles on the basketball court or advocating to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health as the vice president of Peer to Peer. Additionally, I love to read and will devour any text put before me.

Through countless conversations, I have come to understand the power scholastic journalism has to uplift voices that are often overlooked. I am proud to call myself a journalist because of what journalism represents: the ability to make change through the power of writing.
